Understanding what your son will be doing as a member of Sigma Tau Gamma is a great first step towards getting involved and investing in his development as a man, brother, and citizen. For information about the activities your son will participate in, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page or visit the Parents Guide at the Fraternity website.

From day 1 of your son's membership, you can enhance his experience by engaging him in conversation about why he joined a Fraternity and helping him process what he learns and does by remaining interested in the meaning of Sigma Tau Gamma and the purpose of his membership. Joining Sigma Tau Gamma may be the best decision he makes while in college and the first 8 weeks of his membership will be important to his long-term success in the Fraternity.

The beginning of the Path of Principles program is an 8 week associate member period where your son will quite literally practice membership. His coaches will be the Fraternal Educator, his Big Brother, and all of the upperclassmen that take an interest in the newest members of the Fraternity.

During this practice, your son will attend associate class meetings, where he will learn about the structure and business process of the organization. During these meetings he will see presentations from each of the chapter officers about their division of the chapter's corporate structure. You son will have the opportunity to serve as an associate class officer, positions modeled after the chapter leadership. Throughout the second four weeks of the program, your son will select additional chapter leaders to shadow and report on, gaining a sense for the real situations and decisions that have to be made everyday by chapter leaders.

Throughout this time, your son will advance from a recruit to an associate member to new member to member by participating in the Fraternity's Ritual. A great way for you to be involved is to attend these events. Two of the three ceremonies that your son will participate in during his first 8 weeks of membership are public and parent attendance is always a positive opportunity for the Fraternity.

Please browse through the Associate Member timeline on this site to see the details of your son's Path of Principles program and never hesitate to ask questions! You may use the Contact page to reach a Fraternity staff member or use the Chapter Locator to email the President of your son's chapter.
